Meet your designer

I'm Sarah Stewart.

I'm a creative, and I always have been. My brother and I used to argue in the backseat of the car over who was going to buy the abandoned house on the side of the road, so we could make it beautiful again. I grew up watching Trading Spaces with my mom.

For years, design was something I did for friends, family and myself. Then a group of friends and I surprised another friend with a brand-new laundry room while she was on vacation. It was a complete night-and-day transformation, and the first time I'd taken a space from start to finish for someone else. Afterward, I kept asking myself: why couldn't I do this for people? So I took the leap.

Working with me is casual. I'm not a stuffy person, and the whole thing should feel easy and collaborative. Your ideas and your style stay at the front.

In her words

A minute with Sarah.

How she works, what she loves most about it, and why the space around you matters more than we tend to think.

An investment in your space is really an investment in the way you feel about life.

My approach

A collaborative process, start to finish.

Every project is different. Some people need help with layout and flow. Others don't know where to start with furniture, paint colors, window treatments, rugs or wallpaper. Bring me in for one part of it, or all of it.

  1. A conversation

It starts with a note. Tell me a little about your space, what you love and what isn't working, and we'll go from there.

  2. The consultation

In person, over the phone or virtually. I take the measurements and photos I need, look at inspiration with you, and ask a lot of questions about the space and about you. There are a few forms too, so I can learn the story of your space.

  3. Design & concept

For most spaces I build a full 3D model with renderings. It all comes together in a design file: mood boards, layouts and item suggestions with clickable links, so you can shop the room yourself if you'd like. For some clients, that's the whole project.

  4. Sourcing & styling

If you want to go further, I shop for the pieces, whether that's new from the store or secondhand, auctions and flea markets, then set it all up. I can be as involved, or as hands-off, as you want. What works on paper doesn't always come together in person; styling is where it finally does.

For homes, and for businesses.

A space tells people who you are. At home, it's where you start every day. For a business, it's the first thing your customers feel when they walk in, and it should match the care you put into everything else. Offices, shops and studios deserve good design too.

The details

Every piece tells a story.

The items you choose for your space say something about you. Good design goes deeper than the way a room looks; it's how it works, and how it feels to be in it.

The work

Spaces, collected.

Rooms from recent projects. Each one looks different, because each client is. Select a photo to see it larger.

Let's talk

Book a consultation.

Hiring a designer isn't admitting defeat. Even if you have a great eye, it's a way to organize all of your ideas and run them past an outside perspective, with your style still leading the way.

What happens next

  1. Send a note about your space and what you're hoping for.
  2. I'll reply personally, with a short form to learn the story of your space.
  3. We'll set up your consultation: in person, by phone or virtually.
